While performing at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Thursday 16 June 2022, Jennifer Lopez introduced her 14-year-old child using gender-neutral pronouns. JLo invited her kid, Emme Muñiz, on stage and introduced them only using they/them pronouns by telling the crowd: “The last time we performed together was in a big stadium like this and I ask them to sing with me all the time, and they won’t.”

“So this is a very special occasion,” the American singer and actress continued, referring to the Super Bowl halftime performance she also brought her child on stage for in 2020. At the time, the then 11-year-old performed their mother’s 2001 hit ‘Let’s Get Loud’. Young Muñiz then broke into a version of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born In The U.S.A.’.

“They are very, very busy. Booked. And pricey,” Lopez added at the duo’s latest performance.

Muñiz—whose father is actor Marc Anthony—joined their mother to perform a duet of Christina Perri’s ‘A Thousand Years’ at the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) Blue Diamond Gala. Lopez went on to joke that Muñiz was “worth every single penny because they’re my favourite duet partner of all time.”

A video from user @ygiron96 on Twitter shows the pair singing together, with Lopez wearing a mint-coloured outfit with feathered embellishment and Muñiz in a hot pink matching set and black cap. At one point, the singer kneeled down and looked up at them while they harmonised. The Daily Mail also reported that Muñiz used a rainbow-coloured microphone during the performance.

Lopez and Anthony have one other child, Emme’s twin Max. Following Muñiz’s performance at the Super Bowl halftime show, both parents expressed how proud they were of their child.

The Hollywood Reporter wrote that the Blue Diamond Gala raised a record $3.6 million dollars for LADF, which aims to provide healthcare and improve education, homelessness and social justice for Los Angeles residents.
