A doctor has shared a spooky picture of what appears to be the Grim Reaper in an operating theatre—a facility within a hospital where surgical operations are carried out in an aseptic environment—just minutes after his colleague performed a surgery.

Doctor Jorge Bermejo Kawache Ortega from Mexico shared the image within a clip posted on his TikTok page where it has since gone viral, amassing over 1.6 million views.

According to Doctor Kawache, a medical colleague of his had just finished performing a woman’s hysterectomy when a photo was taken of them holding up a jar containing the patient’s removed uterus.

Although the image seems perfectly ‘normal’ at first glance, a closer look at it shows an eerie black shadow which looks remarkably like the mythical being in the background of the operating room at the Clínica del Noroeste in Hermosillo.

Speaking about the mysterious figure, Doctor Kawache said: “Whether or not you believe in the paranormal and that plane that surrounds us, I’ll leave you with something to reflect on: All surgeons, when entering an operating room, have a constant fight with death to restore people to health.”

“Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. No matter how good a surgeon you are, death is always part of our work and is always present.”

In an interview with Jam Press, he added: “A friend of mine in Hermosillo (Sonora State) Mexico sent me a message saying ‘check out this picture real quick’. When I opened it, the first thing I saw was the jar, containing a uterus following an abdominal hysterectomy of a 50-year-old female patient.”

“The operation went very well without complications, and the patient was discharged the next day,” Doctor Kawache continued. “The doctor took the photo of the organ in the Formol preservative to show the patient’s family. And of course, the relatives saw the dark silhouette behind the jar and were like ‘oh my God, what the f*ck is that?’ They were very scared about this.”

Despite the fact that the Grim Reaper character is believed to cause a victim’s death by coming to collect that person’s soul, Doctor Kawache went on to explain that the patient who had undergone the surgery was discharged the very next day and was fine “so I don’t know, it was just an eerie image.”

Of course, that didn’t stop netizens from discussing what was spotted in the picture and sharing their own paranormal experiences. No matter what you believe in, it’s becoming harder and harder to deny the uncanny encounters some people have lived to tell the tale.

A perfect example of this is Tina Hines, who died for 25 minutes and, as soon as she miraculously woke up, wrote “It’s real” on a piece of paper, confirming the existence of an afterlife.
