Who are nepo baby Matty Healy’s parents? Meet Denise Welch and Tim Healy

Reading time: 2 minutes

Whether he’s throttling himself with a microphone or dousing himself in red wine on stage, Matty Healy has always found a way to keep his name in the headlines. Naturally, like a lot of other 20-somethings, I grew up with Healy’s band The 1975. So it’s definitely been difficult watching the singer make so many bad public decisions, and ultimately lose a big part of his fanbase.

Healy is an interesting character, and one of the things that makes him so intriguing is the fact that he has not one, but two semi-famous celebrities as parents. And just to preface, I mean zero offence when I say ‘semi-famous’—both these individuals are true stars in my mind. Maybe just not the world’s…

However, some gen Zers have gone as far as to claim that Healy is indeed a nepotism baby. While I can’t imagine that two British mini-celebs helped Healy get a foot in the indie music scene, you never really know, do you?

Who is Matty Healy’s mum?

Starting us off is Healy’s mum, Denise Welch. Welch is an English TV personality, actress, and broadcaster. Most people would probably recognise her from the iconic British programme Loose Women where she often features as a panellist.

The 65-year-old has been a staple in British television over the last few decades, starring in a ton of soap operas such as Coronation Street, Holby City, Waterloo Road, and Casualty.

Welch has also presented a number of TV shows including The Real DIY Show and Soap Fever.

Welch is in no way your ‘lowkey’ popstar’s mum. In fact, the actress is regularly seen attending Healy’s shows and posing with some of his famous mates. Not gonna lie, I personally would also hijack my son’s performance if it meant I could hang out with Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley.

Welch gave birth to Healy in 1989 and then shortly after, in 2001, gave birth to his brother, Louis Vincent.

Is Matty Healy’s brother an actor?

While we’re on the subject of siblings, some might also be interested to know that Healy’s brother is also famous in his own right. The singer’s younger sibling has been an actor for some time now, appearing in shows such as Hotel Portofino and Emmerdale Farm, as well as the film Sometimes Always Never.

Who is Matty Healy’s dad?

Just like his mum, Healy’s dad is also an actor. Timothy Malcolm Healy is probably best known for his character Les Conroy in the sitcom Benidorm, a British classic.

If you haven’t seen Benidorm, imagine a bunch of Brits lounging by the pool, sipping on dirt-cheap pornstar martinis, and overall having a whale of a time. It’s a quintessential UK show and one that’s developed quite the cult following.

Healy’s dad has been to a ton of his son’s shows too, and even took to the stage one night to perform The 1975’s song ‘All I Need To Hear.’

Healy’s parents were married from 1988 to 2012, before sadly going their separate ways. I can only assume that the Healy parents were the subject of Matty’s rather emotionally vulnerable track ‘Robbers’.
