One of the most memorable moments during the 2024 Emmy Awards was when a Green Goblin attendee graced the red carpet. RuPaul’s Drag Race star Princess Poppy undoubtedly stole the spotlight when she decided to attend the event, which took place on Monday 15 January, covered head to toe in green body paint, goblin ears, and a goblin nose.

While the majority of celebrities opted for classic gowns and sparkling jewels, Princess Poppy, who was at the Emmys with the rest of the cast from season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race took a bold departure from the traditional with a head-to-toe transformation. The unconventional look was completed with a strapless green gown, glittering green jewels, a wig of wispy white hair, and a unique goblin nose adorned with artificial moles, creating a visual spectacle that set her apart from everyone else at the event.

Viewers took to social media to express a range of reactions, from surprise to amusement. Many were intrigued by the unexpected nature of Princess Poppy’s appearance, with one X user humorously commenting: “This low-key scared me.” Another individual shared a video of the drag queen walking the red carpet behind actor Claire Danes, emphasising the contrast between Poppy’s distinctive look and the more conventional outfits surrounding her.

The curiosity surrounding the backstory of Princess Poppy’s appearance only added to the intrigue. One netizen shared: “I actually don’t want to know the backstory. I want to imagine this person just showed up—maybe as a plus one—and that all the producers are super pissed and trying to make sure this creature isn’t seen once the show starts.”

The official RuPaul’s Drag Race X account contributed to the buzz by confirming the attendance of its stars at the Emmys. The account shared a photo of Princess Poppy alongside her fellow cast members, captioning it with: “It’s giving Emmys Eleganza Extravaganza! Say hiiiii to some of our #DragRace season 15 family!”
