Hollywood’s old dads are taking a page from Succession by lining up the lineage

As Succession, HBO’s nepo baby nightmare wraps up its final season, we can’t help but notice a few similarities between Logan, patriarch of the Roy family, and many of Hollywood’s most famous silver stars. All of whom suddenly seem desperate to pump out a future successor—or at least an heir to their inordinate fortunes.

As you may have already guessed, Al Pacino is welcoming his fourth child aged 83 (yep, you read that correctly),with 29-year-old girlfriend and Beverly Hills nepotism spawn, Noor Alfallah. The news was confirmed by a representative for the actor today on Wednesday 31 May 2023.

Much like Logan’s assistant, obsessive lover, and ultimate sidechick Kerry, Alfallah seems to have a taste for the geriatrics, having briefly dated Mick Jagger too.

We’re happy for the pair, but we’re a little confused as to why the Scarface star wants another kid now. He already has three fully grown potentials from previous marriages to succeed his throne. Being a busy actor may not have afforded the on-screen mobster the freedom to truly sink into parenthood? Hell, maybe this one’s just for safety.

It’s not just Pacino either who seems to have been struck by the baby bug, much of his Hollywood cohorts seem desperate to secure their legacy and have a taste of proper fatherhood as the inevitable croak looms eerily on the horizon.

Robert De Niro, best known for his roles in Taxi Driver and Meet The Parents, has recently welcomed into the world his seventh child at the age of 79. Conceived with current girlfriend Tiffany Chen, it’s clear that De Niro is also keen to preserve his legacy as best he can.

The Spaghetti Western superstar Clint Eastwood also managed to create a small army with his eight children, the youngest of which was born in 1996, when the star was about 66 years old. Jurassic Park’s Jeff Goldblum is a new father too, with a five, and seven-year-old at the now apparent prime age of 70. Even Richard Gere is raising a new two-year-old at 70.

Every kingdom needs a ruler, and these industry legends seem to be no strangers to the game of family politics, even if they seem a little bit late to the party.

The mystery behind these late parenthoods may also lie in the fact that so many of these actors were performing their hearts out in the prime of their lives. While most of us picture doing the whole family thing in our late 20s, and early 30s (climate change permitting), a lot of these Hollywood actors were living a bit too wildly to hang around and spend time raising a family. Can you blame them? I’m not sure I’d want to be tied down to family rearing in between flights to Italy for shooting, and Cannes for schmoozing.

That being said, can we take a moment to remember Rick Moranis, star of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, among other nostalgic 80s flicks, who retired from acting to be a full-time dad after the loss of his wife in 1991?

There’s no time like the present for our favourite silver haired stars and the best of luck to whoever manages to succeed in the footsteps of these giants. With natal connections like these, Hollywood’s next generation of nepo babies will have it made.
