It’s official, as per usual, TikTok is providing all of the goods and gossip. Leaked videos have begun circulating of the trailer for the upcoming Mean Girls revamp. In the previews before the equally highly anticipated Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour film, gen Zers were thrilled to see that they were also going to get a sneak peek at the Mean Girls remake.

I mean, hearing those sacred words “Get in loser” was a real rush—and I wasn’t even in the cinema watching it in real life. And while I wouldn’t normally condone the pirating of movie trailers, I’m all here for this one. Plus, it was only a teaser, so no harm done, right?

Mean Girls, despite coming out in 2004, when I was only five years old, had a massive impact on not just me, but pretty much every noughties baby. I was obsessed with the entire cast and immediately pledged my allegiance to Lindsay Lohan at a very young age. So, the concept of a new iteration of the iconic movie is both exciting and daunting. Imagine if they screw it up as badly as they did Mean Girls 2.

The thing about this new movie is, it’s a musical. I know, shocking. I personally cannot wait to see a musical number revolving around Damian and Janis’ friendship or maybe one about Karen’s ability to tell if it’s going to rain through her boobs.

Some of the stars of Mean Girls: The Musical include Reneé Rapp, The Summer I Turned Pretty’s Christopher Briney, Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, Auliʻi Cravalho, and Jaquel Spivey. Plus, OG cast members Tina Fey and Tim Meadows are going to be making appearances.

Some netizens aren’t as thrilled about the revamp as others. The musical is based predominantly on the Broadway show as opposed to the original film, which is why people are worried that some of the magic from the 2005 movie might get lost in the shuffle. Oh, they’re also not in love with the costumes.
