On Wednesday 14 February 2024, Megan Fox posted a photo to her Instagram account of herself with partner Colson Baker, aka Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), and Super Bowl all-around winners Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. Seemingly, Fox and MGK had travelled to Las Vegas to celebrate the Kansas City Chiefs’ win at the Super Bowl LVIII. And while the image appeared innocent enough, the caption was received incredibly badly.

When images first began circulating of Fox at the club a few nights prior, people had been shocked by her appearance. In fact, some netizens wondered whether or not the actress had undergone plastic surgery. That being said, club lighting is notoriously harsh and angles are everything. So it made sense that the celebrity would take to her own social media to share images from the night and set the story straight on her looks.

However, users were shocked at Fox’s caption, which read: “Oh my god guys look how different I
don’t look at all. Turns out it was just a shadowy cell phone pic of me looking like a Ukrainian blowup doll, when in REALITY I look like one of those super expensive silicone real sex dolls you can only get in Japan.”

Immediately, netizens took to the comments section to share their disgust with Fox’s caption. One user wrote: “I guess xenophobia towards Eastern Europeans is still a thing in Hollywood,” while another put “Is xenophobia and misogyny towards Ukrainians ok for you? For normal people, they are not.”

Things then escalated to where users began continuing to share their thoughts on other pictures. One user wrote: “Plastic hater picking on Ukrainian women who are survivors. What a lousy person you are. Shame on you!” Another commented: “You are a SHAME!!! How you talk about UKRAINE.”

While it was upsetting to see the amount of misogynistic comments Fox had been receiving about her looks, it was even more upsetting to witness the actress be so careless with her own words.

A lot of people have noted that if Fox simply wanted to make a joke, she could’ve easily referenced a sex doll or blow-up doll without bringing Ukranian women into the conversation. Eastern European women have historically been over-sexualised and fetishised.

Moreover, women in Ukraine are going through an incredibly traumatising time right now and it was definitely irresponsible of Fox to make such a tasteless comment.
