If there’s one man who has the entirety of both Hollywood and the internet in a chokehold, it’s Jeremy Allen White. Everyone’s favourite part-time chef and full-time farmer’s market fanboy, White has established himself as a legitimate force to be reckoned with in the industry. However, as is the case with all beautiful men who sport white tank tops and flaunt their toned arms wherever they go, netizens are far more concerned with White’s romantic life than his acting skills.

Interests first peaked when it was revealed that White had separated from his then-wife Addison Timlin in May 2023. But who is Timlin, and how did the pair first get together? Fans naturally had questions about both White’s dating history and his future. So, let’s get into it.

How did Jeremy Allen White and Addison Timlin meet?

The pair first met in 2005 during their freshman year at the Professional Performing Arts High School in New York City, where White was born and grew up. While the two became immediate friends, nothing romantic transpired between them for a few years. Similar to White, Timlin was also an aspiring actor who was searching for her big break in the industry.

Things began to progress between White and Timlin in 2008 when they were both cast in the film Afterschool, a psychological thriller also starring Ezra Miller. While the pair remained relatively private about their romance, Timlin did quietly reference her new beau during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in 2013: “I’ve got a sweetheart who I will not disclose, but, yes, he’d be the guy. We have a nice foundation from being friends for a long period of time, and then it took a hard right turn into romance.”

In 2017, White began frequently featuring Timlin on his social media, sharing his love and admiration for the actor:

Back when White was best known for his portrayal of Lip in the US version of the TV series Shameless, it was Timlin who was always there to support his career:

Timlin, who was also pursuing a career in acting at this time, was also supported by White publicly. Some of her most memorable roles include indie film Best Man Down, ABC drama Zero Hour, and romantic fantasy film Fallen.

In 2018, the couple had their first child, who they named Ezer. The pair then tied the knot the following year and in 2020, they welcomed baby number two, Dolores. Speaking about his experience finding out that Timlin was pregnant with their first child, White shared in an interview with InStyle: “When I found out that my wife and I were pregnant… she called me because she wanted to just tell me right away. We had just moved into our house in Los Angeles, and I was sitting in the backyard to have a little rest. And there was this really old tree sitting in the corner, with a hummingbird nest in it. The tree was dead, but the nest looked like it had been there for a long time. As my wife was telling me we were pregnant, my eyes were just on this hummingbird darting around the whole time. So, I got a little hummingbird for Ezer, our oldest daughter.”

In an Instagram post commemorating their anniversary, Timlin wrote: “Happy anniversary baby. My favourite thing on planet Earth (besides our kids) is saying ‘my husband.’ You are the greatest person I’ve ever met and you make my life seem touched by God. I know you think this public display of affection is goofy but there isn’t a rooftop I won’t shout it from, I love you!! This year was hard but we love harder.”

Timlin was also the first person to take to Instagram to share her excitement about White’s Golden Globe win in 2023 for his leading role in The Bear: “When we were 14 years old and I saw you perform for the first time in drama class, I couldn’t take my eyes off of you. When we’d run your lines for Shameless I’d be so tickled knowing beforehand what everyone would get to witness the next day on set. When I watched the pilot for The Bear, I cried my f*cking heart out. I think somewhere I must’ve known how much life was about to change, but mostly I just knew that the world was about to discover what I’ve known all along.”

Timlin continued: “What a privilege it’s been to know first. I love this picture so much because you look 14 and 31 at the same time—watching you win on Tuesday was one of the most overwhelming dimension-hopping moments of my whole life, watching you win last night while holding our two babies was pretty out of this world too. Daddy won another trophy winners’ cup. We’re so proud.”

White also made sure to shout out his wife during his acceptance speech, saying: “Addison Timlin, I love you deep in my bones. Thank you for all you do, thank you for everything you’ve done.”

Why did Jeremy Allen White get divorced?

So, given all this, it came as a massive shock to fans when it was announced that Timlin had filed for divorce. Indeed, netizens were even more taken aback when court documents revealed that the official date of separation had been listed as 1 September 2022—a time when the pair looked more in love than ever.

While neither White nor Timlin has ever revealed why the marriage came to an end, there has been a lot of speculation about whether or not White’s alleged issues with substance abuse had played a role.

According to The Independent, in October 2023, White was court-ordered to undergo daily alcohol testing as a part of his custody agreement with Timlin. While the pair have joint custody over their two daughters, White will only be able to spend time with his children if he complies with several court-ordered stipulations, such as daily alcohol testing. The stipulation is reportedly in place to verify that the actor is not intoxicated around his children.

In White’s recent acceptance speech during the 2024 Emmy Awards, the actor slightly hinted at the troubles he’s faced over the past year, stating: “Thank you to all those who have stayed close to me, especially in this past year, you know who you are. Thank you for believing in me when I had trouble believing in myself. I love you.”

As is customary, a lot of people have felt it necessary to comment on the actor’s custody arrangement:

When did Jeremy Allen White and Rosalía start dating?

Following his split from Timlin, White began his new dating journey—a journey that quickly led him to Spanish singer and songwriter Rosalía. The couple were first spotted together in October 2023 in a romantic moment that saw the two browsing flowers at a farmer’s market in Los Angeles. It’s practically like a scene straight out of a rom-com.

Following this initial rendezvous, the two were then spotted together sporadically over the proceeding months, holding hands and engaging in some serious PDA:

Neither celebrity has publicly addressed the romance, however, the pair do have quite a lot in common, with Rosalía having called off her engagement to Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro in July 2023 and, of course, White calling things quits with Timlin in May of that same year. So, perhaps they’ve helped with one another’s healing? Either way, I doubt fans will take a backseat in sharing their opinions and criticisms on White’s dating life anytime soon.
