From Cocaine Bear and M3GAN, to Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, one thing is clear: ridiculous movies are very much in. More precisely, recent horror movies are featuring animal antagonists more and more. But what if one of these killer animals was literally synonymous with laziness and sluggishness? The answer to that question—which we never thought we would ever ask ourselves, to be honest—can be found in the upcoming film Slotherhouse, which is due to come out in cinemas on 30 August 2023.

Directed by Matthew Goodhue, Slotherhouse is definitely more of a dark comedy film than a sinister slasher flick. This probably has to do with the fact that a sloth holding a loofah and hiding behind a shower curtain is more slapstick than it is scream-curdling.

The film stars Lisa Ambalavanar as college student Emily Young who adopts an adorable sloth, named Alpha, to help her become president of her sorority. But when bodies slowly begin to pile up in the Sigma Lambda Theta house, Emily and her sorority sisters realise the deaths are being caused by their new house mascot.

Will Young and her sisters escape the house with their lives? Or is this deathly sloth with three razor-sharp claws too quick for them?

You’ll have to wait until the end of the month to get your answers, but until then, why don’t you treat yourself to Slotherhouse’s hilarious trailer which just launched:
