In January 2023, multiple women came out against the actor Percy Hynes White, best known for portraying Xavier Thorpe in Netflixā€™s hit success Wednesday, primarily circulating around a Twitter thread that was posted by @milkievich on 18 January. Included in the claims made online was coercion of minors, sexual assault allegations, and even the use of racist slurs and offensive memes, which alleged victims said occurred when White was between the ages of 17 and 20.

Up until now, White had remained silent on the worrying allegations made against him, despite an increasingly incessant flow of threats against him and those he is close to. Today however, Thursday 8 June, the actor has finally spoken up about the multiple women coming forward via social media.

Taking to Instagram, where White currently has over 4.3 million followers, the 21-year-old shared a statement on his story alleging that these ā€œfalseā€ claims are nothing but ā€œmisinformation.ā€

ā€œHi everyone. Thereā€™s something I need to clarify,ā€ he began the message. ā€œEarlier this year, somebody Iā€™ve never met started a campaign of misinformation about me online. Because of this, my family has been doxxed, and my friends have received death threats.ā€

ā€œUnderage photos of me were used, and examples of me acting in character were presented as hateful,ā€ White continued. ā€œMy friend Jane was falsely portrayed as a victim, and her attempts to set the record straight have been ignored. She gave me permission to include her in this message.ā€

ā€œThe rumors are false. I canā€™t accept the portrayal of me as someone bigoted, or criminally negligent of peopleā€™s safety,ā€ the young actor went on to add. ā€œThese are the kind of baseless, harmful claims that can create mistrust toward victims.ā€

To conclude his message, White shed light on how the accusations had impacted his friends and family, revealing: ā€œItā€™s very distressing to know that this misinformation has upset people. Iā€™m really thankful for everyone whoā€™s stood by me and helped share the facts. Harassment of my family, friends, and coworkers needs to stop, please.ā€

As the initial Twitter thread (which has since been deleted) started picking up traction online in January, a slew of other allegations were also made after that, leading to a Change.org petition calling to have White removed from the second series of Wednesday. Currently, the petition is just short of 1,000 signatures before it reaches its goal of 10,000.

Itā€™s unclear whether White will be returning as Jenna Ortegaā€™s friend and potential love interest, Xavier Thorpe, for Wednesdayā€™s season two, which had been confirmed for renewal around the same time the allegations against the actor began to surface.
