What happens when heatwaves, wildfires, and extreme flooding come together? If you are anything like me, you would guess a lot of things. But, what you probably didn’t think of, was a herd of sheep breaking into a greenhouse that produces medicinal cannabis, and consuming a mountain full of weed.

Well, who’d have guessed it, but this is exactly what happened in Thessaly, central Greece. It is currently semi-flooded, due to the aftermath of Storm Daniel.

The storm, alongside other natural catastrophes, destroyed many areas of farmland, which is why the herd was struggling to find fresh grass to eat.

Consequently, they headed to a greenhouse near the town of Almyros, where they still did not find any grass—or at least not the type you would expect a sheep to eat. According to Sky News, it is estimated that the herd ate over 100 kilograms of cannabis.

Shortly after their little excursion, the local shepherd noticed that his flock was exhibiting “strange behaviour,” although he did not specify what that behaviour was. Apparently, the sheep were “jumping higher than goats, which never happens,” the owner of the farm, Yannis Bourounis, told reporters. Quite the trip indeed.

Greece is actually among the few nations in the European Union that have legalised cannabis for certain medical purposes, which explains why the sheep were able to find it so easily.

“I don’t know if it’s for laughing or crying,” the owner of the cannabis crop said. “We had the heatwave and we lost a lot of production. We had the floods, we lost almost everything. And now this. The herd entered the greenhouse and ate what was left. I don’t know what to say, honestly.”

Yikes, I mean as long as the sheep are physically healthy, it sounds like they probably had a good time.
