Melania Trump is officially quiet quitting her marriage to Donald Trump—and we don’t blame her. 2023 has been a pretty wild year for the former President of the United States and while he spends his time posing for mug shots, it seems as though his first lady is making arrangements of her own.

While I won’t bore you with all of the current legal troubles Trump is facing, let’s just briefly highlight some of the most significant ones. For starters, the businessman is facing four indictments, two on state charges and two on federal charges. Next, he was found liable for the defamation and sexual abuse of journalist E. Jean Carroll, who has also alleged that the former president raped her in 1996. And finally, to top things off, as of Monday 2 October, Trump is about to be confronted with a hefty fraud civil suit which could very likely decimate his professional and financial reputation.

Oh, and there’s an entire cohort of MAGA-obsessed Republicans who’re still hoping that Trump will clinch the 2024 US Presidential election—even if that is from behind bars.

So, what steps is Melania taking to protect her assets? Well, according to multiple reports, the 53-year-old has been quietly renegotiating her prenuptial agreement (prenup) with Trump. The pair got married in 2005 and share one son, 17-year-old Baron Trump.

Now, there are a number of likely reasons as to why Melania may be re-evaluating her options. For one, there is a genuine possibility that Trump may not only lose his fortune, but might also face prison time. If I were her, I’d also want to make sure that both myself and my son were going to be financially stable and secure. I mean, the woman’s spent almost 20 years with Trump, she’s probably desperate for a vacation away from him.

According to Page Six, sources have confirmed that the prenuptial agreement has actually been renegotiated three times since the pair wed. Interestingly, the motivations behind these changes don’t seem to be because the former first lady is planning on fleeing the nest anytime soon. Rather, it’s all about ensuring that Baron’s trust fund is kept safe.

Although Trump’s net fortune is not specifically known, various publications have estimated that it stands at about $2.5 billion. So, even with the current legal challenges he faces—particularly the $250 million in fines that Trump and his adult sons face in the business’ fraud case—it’s unlikely that he’ll go completely broke when this is all said and done.

However, we don’t know how much Baron has been promised for his future, so Melania reworking the prenup in order to secure her son’s bag is completely plausible.

It should also be noted that Melania has been much less present during Trump’s 2024 campaign trail than she has been during previous election cycles. Some people are of course speculating that the relationship between the two might be fraught, particularly following the E. Jean Carroll case.

Either way, there’s no doubt that what was left of Trump’s industry reputation and influence is quickly crumbling around him. If I were Melania, I’d get out sooner rather than later. To be real, I’m just looking forward to the day when I don’t have to see the word Trump on my phone. Can they all just piss off?
