Attention BeyHive, don’t put your silver outfits and rhinestones away just yet, because Beyoncé just dropped the trailer for Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé, a new concert movie based on her record-breaking world tour. And, dare I say it, this might just be my Roman empire.

The artist wrapped up her highly acclaimed world tour on Sunday 1 October 2023 in Kansas City. Marking her ninth concert tour, the Renaissance global experience had shattered the previous record for the highest-grossing tour by a solo female artist, which was set by Madonna in 2009, and has generated approximately $4.5 billion for the US economy. For context, this is about as much as the 2008 Olympics raked in for Beijing’s economy.

The tour has been described as a “dizzying three-hour spectacle,” with multiple attributes to queer and Black culture. It saw fans drive across the country and fly in from around the globe to make it to the concerts, all for the rare opportunity to see Beyoncé flying across an arena on a silver unicorn, while confetti was pouring down on the masses. So, needless to say, the trailer has already been liked 2.1 million times since it was posted on Instagram eight hours ago.

The preview provided enticing glimpses of Beyoncé’s live performances and offered a peek behind the scenes—including clips of dance rehearsals with her daughter Blue Ivy, who was present on the tour, as well as some appearances by her husband Jay-Z.

“When I am performing, I am nothing but free,” the musician noted in the trailer. “My goal for this tour was to create a place where everyone is free and no one is judged.”

Altogether, the Renaissance tour was more than just entertainment. Over five months, it became a glittery and campy cultural moment that will now remain etched in history.

Plus, fans won’t have to wait too long to see the flick either. Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé is scheduled to be released on 1 December 2023.
