Whether it’s the ladies in Bridgerton, Cher in Clueless, or the date doctor in Hitch, we all love to watch a good matchmaker at work. And apparently, so does Tinder. On Monday 23 October 2023, the dating app rolled out a new tool called, you might have guessed it, Matchmaker. It allows up to 15 people to access a friend’s account for 24 hours and suggest likes for them.

The commercials for Matchmaker started popping up a couple of hours ago. And as if gen Zers needed an additional push to jump on this new tool, Tinder chose no other than Coi Leray, chief player in charge, to head up the marketing campaign for the new feature:

“Handing your phone over to the friend group was the original vibe check. Obviously, you want your friends to like whoever you’re crushing on, and Tinder Matchmaker is a fun way to get the bestie seal of approval even before the match,” Leray commented in a conversation with Tinder.

Let’s be honest for a moment, relationships rarely progress without getting that all-important check mark from your friends, so it will be handy to have them approve your new romance from the get-go.

Matching with the help of your friends is obviously not a new or revolutionary concept. However, it is nice to see that the popular dating app is attempting to make it super easy from now on.

“The feature makes modern dating a team sport,” Tinder stated on its website. “Users can now invite others, whether they have a Tinder profile or not, to view and suggest potential matches.”

As expected, netizens have taken quite naturally to this new feature. In fact, they are already sharing TikToks of themselves using it:

Most commentators on these videos tag their friends, with messages like “we should try this.”

Others have shared their own experiences with the feature. “I did this for a mate, and I spammed the like button for 10 mins solid and actually ran out of single people in the area,” one user noted.

“We need to find a single friend,” another said, seemingly feeling like they’re missing out on the fun.

Matchmaker is going to be released in 15 countries first, including the UK, the US and Australia, before expanding worldwide in a few months’ time. So, if you are lucky enough to live somewhere where you can get an early start on it, don’t make your friends wait. I am sure there are tons of potential matches they need your advice on.
