Kanye West recently hosted a live listening event in Miami to promote his upcoming album, Vultures, alongside Ty Dolla $ign. The star-studded stage included collaborators like Offset, Kodak Black, Chris Brown, and a surprise appearance by none other than Ye’s 10-year-old daughter, North West.

North, with the confidence of a seasoned vet, took the mic to perform her verse on one of her dad’s new songs. Clearly unfazed by the crowd or spotlight, North rapped: “I love it here, we gonna take over the year for another year, it’s your bestie, Miss Westie, don’t try to test me, it’s gonna get messy, it’s gonna get messy, just, just bless me.”

This is not North’s first performance alongside her father. We witnessed her initial venture into the world of rap during the Yeezy season eight fashion show in 2020, which provided us with an early glimpse of her talent.

North and Ye not only share the zodiac sign Gemini, they also seemingly have a lot of similarities in regard to their looks and personality. Kanye’s influence extends beyond mere genetics—he has actively contributed to North’s fashion sense, creating custom clothing from his own Yeezy line specifically for her.

It’s safe to say that North is carving her own path to stardom. During a recent interview with i-D, North, who also showcased her unique clothing and accessories during the shoot, shared insights into what the audience can anticipate from her in the coming years. When asked what she wants to be when she grows up, the mini Kardashian replied: “A basketball player, a rapper, um… Well, when I was seven, I wanted to be a boxer. But now I don’t want to be a boxer. So a rapper, a basketball player, and I’m going to make artwork that I sell.”

It seems as though Kanye already has North’s future all planned out, having chosen the youngster as his successor. Among all their children, West has openly acknowledged seeing something extraordinary in North, specifically a quality he believes will enable her to continue the legacies of her parents.

In an interview with ABC News in 2022, Ye noted: “Never let anyone take anything from you. Protect your little brothers and sisters. Protect the family. Never let anyone take our company.”

“I’m literally saying this to her because I realise she’s one of the people in the family who will make sure that no one ever takes our company, no one ever takes what me and Kim have built with both of our brands and the brands that we’re building now,” the rapper continued.

However, the trend of celebrity children stepping into the limelight raises questions. While North’s appearance on stage may have been a cute addition to the performance, it was obvious that she didn’t particularly have the talent to hold her own. And I mean, who could blame her? She’s 10 years old.

The entire thing felt reminiscent of any performance by a young relative at a family gathering. The influence of celebrities showcasing their children for fame and legacy has become commonplace, with examples like Beyoncé featuring her daughter Blue Ivy in performances on the Renaissance World Tour or even Drake releasing a song sung solely by his 6-year-old, Adonis.

Funnily enough, some people online are even pitting North and Adonis against one another. It’s giving jealous, guys.

While North undoubtedly possesses talent and charisma it’s essential to remember that she’s still so young. Let’s at least give the girl a couple of years to develop her vocal abilities before we stick her centre stage, no? In an age where celebrity offspring are frequently pushed into the public eye, it raises the question of whether or not the audience genuinely desires to witness the next generation stepping into the spotlight… At least for now?
