While some netizens fixated on the outfits and awards portion of the 81st Golden Globes, which took place on Sunday 7 January 2024, others obsessed over the much more important takeaways from the prestigious event, aka, all of the piping hot celebrity tea and drama.

And while I could easily spend all of my time delving into the numerous awkward on-screen moments, I think the piece of gossip that everyone really wants to hear about is the seriously bizarre beef that went down between Kylie Jenner and Selena Gomez.

If you didn’t spend the entirety of last night catching up on all of the drama, don’t stress, I’m here to break it down for you.

First off, a video began circulating showing Gomez confiding in bestie Taylor Swift and Miles Teller’s wife Keleigh Sperry during a commercial break at the ceremony. As the singer, who recently hard-launched her relationship with producer Benny Blanco, chats to the two women, you can clearly see Swift and Sperry in shock, clearly baffled at what they’ve just been told.

Moreover, it’s quite obvious that during the conversation, Sperry mouths the name “Timothée.” Now, Chalamet was of course at the awards show with his girlfriend Jenner—the pair have become one of the most talked about celebrity couples, with fans obsessing over their every move and smooch.

In fact, another video that’s been trending has been a sweet moment captured between the two as they’re sat at their table:

Okay, enough mushiness, and back to the drama. Naturally, TikTok has a number of amateur and semi-professional lip readers, meaning it didn’t take long before people concluded that Gomez’s tea was regarding the fact that Jenner had allegedly forbidden Chalamet from taking a picture with the actress. While I’m simply relying on the science of TikTok, this doesn’t seem that far-fetched.

Chalamet and Gomez have starred in a movie together, A Rainy Day in New York, so it’s not bizarre that the two would take a picture together, but it seemingly rubbed Jenner the wrong way.
