Grimes reveals dangerous way Elon Musk seduced her in new biography

A new excerpt from an upcoming biography posted to X (formerly known as Twitter) has cast Elon Musk as a nerdy eccentric—not that it wasn’t already how most of us saw him before that. Written and shared by biographer Walter Isaacson, the excerpt includes some revealing quotes from Musk’s ex-partner Grimes. In it, the Canadian musician and mother of two of the billionaire’s children speaks of their first few dates, including one time when Musk decided to “let her experience Autopilot,” closing his eyes and taking his hands off the wheel while operating one of his Tesla cars.

“I was like, oh shit, this guy is fucking crazy,” Grimes said in the book. “The car was signalling and changing lanes by itself.” Despite the many claims made by researchers and experts alike on just how unsafe Tesla’s self-driving feature actually is, Musk’s little stunt (which the Tesla manual advises against) definitely worked in his favour.

Grimes went on to say that the whole thing “felt like a scene out of a Marvel movie,” clearly confirming that she was impressed. So much so in fact that she also compared Musk’s “powers” to those of The Lord of the Rings’ Gandalf, which in turn led to Musk giving her a “rapid-fire trivia test on Lord of the Rings” to see if she was “truly a faithful fan” of the franchise.

Grimes passed the test, and as Musk told Isaacson, “that mattered to me.” The rest is history. The musician liked how things started off with the Tesla CEO, which led her to gift him a “box of animal bones she had collected.” How lovely.

Speaking about another date she had with Musk back when the two first started seeing each other, Grimes mentioned a time when she was invited to visit the Tesla factory in 2018. Walking around the building at night—the billionaire’s “idea of a good date” apparently—Grimes was lucky enough to watch Musk “try to fix things.”

The biography is currently expected to be released in September 2023, so keep your eyes peeled if you’re keen for more cringeworthy anecdotes. In the meantime, however, there’s one main event involving Musk that we’re sure will satisfy us with enough memes: his upcoming fight with nemesis Mark Zuckerberg.

In June, the two tech billionaires seemingly agreed to face each other in a cage fight. The stakes for the potential clash were raised in July when Meta launched Threads, seen as a direct competitor to Twitter.

Though everyone saw this as nothing more than an online rift between the two men, only last week, Musk wrote that the possible showdown would be streamed on X. He also revealed that he’s been “lifting weights throughout the day, preparing for the fight,” adding “all proceeds will go to charity for veterans.”

But then, on Sunday 13 August, Zuckerberg took to Threads to share that Musk “isn’t serious” about a cage fight and “it’s time to move on” from their proposed showdown. “Elon won’t confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead,” the Meta CEO wrote.

“If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I’m going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously,” Zuckerberg concluded.
