Sanjay Shah, founder and chief executive of enterprise solutions company Vistex, died in India on Thursday 18 January 2024 due to a fatal fall during his entrance to a company party attended by 700 of his employees.

According to Futurism, Shah had planned a grand entrance to the event, in which he would be let down to the stage in an iron cage. The stage was assorted with flame throwers and the iron cage also had fireworks to each side, providing a visual spectacle. However, part of the chain supporting the cage snapped, throwing Shah and his colleague Raju Datla out of the structure.

Both men were dropped more than 15 feet and landed on the concrete stage. The fall—which was recorded at the time—resulted in multiple injuries, according to the police. One of the men flipped over, landing head-first on the ground, the video shows.

Datla remains in a serious condition while Shah did unfortunately succumb to the severity of his injuries.

The freak accident took place as the company celebrated its silver jubilee at the movie Ramoji Film City movie studio in Hyderabad, India.

Following the incident, a case was registered against the Film City event management authorities. Although the cause of the accident was attributed to the snapped wire, officials are investigating the incident and faulty cage, which was pulled by a rolling machine and had iron wires and grills.

“The company’s heartfelt thoughts and condolences are with Sanjay’s family and all those who knew Sanjay in both professional and personal capacities. Sanjay Shah was an extraordinary leader whose presence permeated the working life of every associate and colleague at Vistex. His leadership and presence were truly unique; Sanjay will be sorely missed by all,” the company announced in a statement released to the press on Monday 22 January.

Videos of the horrific incident have already started to circulate on social media with many users being shocked about how quickly a joyous celebration turned into a disaster.
