Is anyone else feeling like Rihanna has been pregnant for the last two years straight? The ‘Umbrella’ singer and A$AP Rocky have been busy bees as they prepare to welcome their second child into the world. We’re personally constantly refreshing our feeds for the baby announcement. The singer-turned-businesswoman announced her second pregnancy at the Super Bowl earlier this year wearing custom LOEWE, but luckily for us, it wasn’t her first game-changing maternity fit, and it most certainly wasn’t her last.

RiRi revolutionised pregnancy dressing in 2021 as she prepared for her first child. The bump took centre stage, and it was very much intentional—something we haven’t seen a lot of with other celebrity pregnancies. The artist told Vogue: “I’m hoping that we were able to redefine what’s considered ‘decent’ for pregnant women. My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that. This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?”

Collaborating with stylist Jahleel Weaver, the focus of Rihanna’s motherhood era was very much the bump. She chose to sport crop tops instead of the more traditional frumpy baggy tops that have previously dominated maternity fashion. In the past, maternity clothing had always focussed solely on the idea of wanting pregnant people to cover up and hide the body that is quite literally ripping itself apart to bring a whole person into the world. Rihanna’s decision to flaunt her bump from month one all the way through her third trimester has completely changed the way we view pregnancy—placing emphasis on the strength of the preggo individual rather than hide the changes their body is going through.

Rihanna’s Instagram announcement of her first pregnancy received over 18 millions likes, and her bump-dressing continues to go viral on a daily basis. Walking around New York City with A$AP, the singer wore a hot pink vintage Chanel coat, dripped out in matching Chanel jewellery and a pair of baggy jeans. Not long after, Rihanna was seen in a diamante co-ord and oversized fur coat. To the Dior show, she wore an iconic sheer lingerie dress and pointed stiletto heels. The woman’s taste is *chef’s kiss*.

Rihanna clearly had rent to pay because she is killing it with her street style. Speaking of money, prior to her first pregnancy the maternity wear industry was worth $21.6 billion, now with Rihanna’s boost it’s expected to hit $41.3 billion.

It’s evident that Rihanna has found a way to not only redefine a “pregnancy fit”, but she’s also successfully normalised that there is no such thing as an inappropriate outfit when you’re expecting—wear what makes you feel good.

Aside from the red skin tight corset she wore to perform at the Super Bowl, most of Riri’s fits are everyday looks that seem somewhat possible to recreate for expectant parents who aren’t going to be giving birth to our next favourite nepo baby.

As both Rihanna and A$AP get ready for their second child—which hopefully should arrive any day now— the beauty mogul announced that she would be stepping back from her chief executive position at her own lingerie brand Savage x Fenty. The brand has seen some record breaking success, so Rihanna definitely deserves some time off to welcome her new baby, we’ll just have to go into mourning over her pregnancy fits until she announces baby numBer three.
