Elon Musk has had a pretty varied dating history. From English actress Talulah Riley to Canadian singer-songwriter Grimes, the tech mogul has definitely gotten around. But did you know that he’s also had romantic links to one of Hollywood’s most controversial women, Amber Heard?

Heard and Musk hit headlines this week after a particularly intimate image of the actress began circulating online. For a lot of us, we didn’t even realise that the two had been in a relationship.

Having first met in 2013, the pair ended up being romantically linked four years later—very shortly after Heard filed for divorce from her then-husband at the time Johnny Depp. Heard and Depp had an incredibly tumultuous relationship, ultimately concluding in a wildfire of a legal battle that captivated the entire world. As a result, Heard lost a number of film deals and was symbolically and literally exiled from the Hollywood scene.

And while I wouldn’t particularly consider Musk to be the most loving or affectionate partner, something clearly worked for Heard as reports began circulating in 2017 that the couple were getting on incredibly well and progressing with their relationship.

The problem is, that when you are constantly in the public eye, nothing stays in the past, and recently, some pretty intimate details about the pair’s tryst began circulating after a biography about Musk was published. Walter Isaacson, the writer of Elon Musk, may’ve let it slip that, according to the Tesla CEO, the relationship between the two was “brutal.”

Other juicy moments from Isaacson’s biography include the billionaire’s brother Kimbal describing Heard as “toxic” and “a nightmare.” He also went on to add that Musk tends to fall in love with people who are “beautiful” but who also have “a very dark side.” Oh, and it gets worse. Reportedly, after the pair split, Musk recalled that he had endured “18 months of unrelenting insanity” that was “mind-bogglingly painful.” Ouch.

And just to add insult to injury, Musk, who, during the biography had revealed that Heard would often cosplay for him, posted a photo of the actress in—yup, you guessed it—a fantasy costume. Allegedly, the SpaceX founder shared the image to rebuke netizens who’d accused him of lying about the dress-up narrative.

To say that these people are messy is a serious understatement. I wonder who’ll be on Musk’s hit list next…
