Millie Bobby Brown, star of Stranger Things, recently graced Glamour with an interview that sent the internet buzzing. Hold on to your tarot cards, because the British actress has allegedly unearthed her inner feminist, and guess who she’s thanking for this awakening? A psychic… Move over, Gloria Steinem, there’s a new feminist mystic in town.
After visiting a psychic, who informed her that she was, in fact, a feminist, Brown went home and Googled ‘How do I know if I’m a feminist?’ After reading articles and books, she “really grasped the idea of feminism and what it means to me,” she told Glamour. “Ultimately it’s about opportunity.”
Obviously, social media users were quick to seize the moment to embark on a creative escapade. TikTok and other social media platforms started to have users humorously latched onto this psychic encounter, posting memes and remarks as if Raven had a vision herself!
But that’s not all. Brown, who became a sensation by portraying Eleven, the young girl with supernatural powers in Stranger Things, also dropped a bombshell. She’s ready to say goodbye to the show. Why? Brown openly shared her eagerness to part ways with the long-running show, citing that it was too time-consuming. “It’s preventing me from creating stories that I’m passionate about,” she told the magazine.
Despite recognising the invaluable growth she’s experienced portraying Eleven, she emphasised her excitement about staying connected with her colleagues once the show concludes: “When it ends, I’m going to be able to still see these people.”
Brown’s interview also highlighted the challenges she faced during her rise to stardom. Notably, she mentioned facing criticism from YouTubers and bloggers who dissected every word she uttered during interviews with her fellow young co-stars from the show. It’s a hard-knock life when you’re a teenager, trying to find your voice, but also expected to perfectly modulate it during public appearances.
As the interview drew to a close, Brown shared a parting thought. “You cannot speak on children that are underage,” declared the Enola Holmes actress. “I mean, our brains physically have not grown yet. To diminish and practically stunt someone’s growth mentally, strip them down, tell them, ‘Hey, listen, you don’t look that great. Why are you wearing that? How dare you think you can wear that? How dare you say that?’”
So what’s on the horizon for Brown? Much like her Stranger Things character, Eleven, she burst onto the scene with enchanting abilities and quickly won the hearts of America, and besides her impressive new feminist journey, there’s undoubtedly more in the pipeline.
